China Academy of Railway Sciences Group Co., Ltd. (CRRC) was founded in 1950 and is the only multidisciplinary and multi-disciplinary comprehensive research institution in China's railway industry. According to the overall deployment of the national science and technology system reform and the requirements of the Ministry of Railways' "Reply on the Transformation Plan of the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways" (Tiezhengshan [2000] No. 461), the transformation from a public institution to an enterprise unit began in 2000. At present, it has developed into a large high-tech enterprise group integrating scientific and technological innovation, technical services, achievement transformation, engineering implementation and other businesses.
It has 22 secondary units and 60 wholly-owned or holding companies, specializing in various major technical fields of rail transit. The total number of employees is nearly 10000, including 2 members of the CAE Member, 1 member of the CAE Member, and 6 special scientific consultants.
It has the largest ring railway test base in Asia, as well as nine national innovation platforms, including the National Engineering Research Center for High speed Railway and Urban Rail Transit System Technology, the National Key Laboratory for High speed Railway Track System, and the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Railway Intelligent Transport System. There are nearly 100 professional laboratories and more than 8000 sets of experimental equipment.
One of the first national units to resume graduate enrollment and training, and one of the first national level continuing education bases for professional and technical personnel. There are currently 2 postdoctoral mobile stations, 1 first level discipline doctoral degree authorization point, and 2 second level discipline doctoral degree authorization points; 3 first level discipline master's degree authorization points, 1 second level discipline master's degree authorization point, and 5 professional degree category master's degree authorization points. We have 261 graduate supervisors, including 68 doctoral supervisors and 193 master's supervisors.
China Academy of Railway Sciences Group Co., Ltd. is a national high-tech enterprise that has passed the certification of three management systems: quality, environment, occupational health, and safety. We have qualifications in engineering design, consulting, disaster prevention and control, soil and water conservation, and network security assessment. Our main laboratories have been accredited by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) and the China Certification and Accreditation Administration (CMA) for metrology. We are currently a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC) and the Chinese technical counterpart of the Railway Application Technical Committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). We have established long-term connections with railway research institutions and organizations in more than 20 countries and regions.
For more than 70 years since its establishment, the institute has focused on the main battlefield of railway transportation, and carried out a large number of major and key technology breakthroughs and experimental research in key areas of railway construction and transportation production. It has won a total of 216 national level science and technology awards (including 7 special awards and 19 first prizes) and 1669 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards (as of June 2024). Made significant contributions to promoting technological progress in China's railway industry.
Adhering to the responsibility and mission of China's railway strategic scientific and technological strength, vigorously strengthening scientific and technological innovation and industry technical services, we have achieved a number of innovative achievements with world-class level in high-speed railway construction and operation maintenance, equipment modernization, existing line speed increase, heavy load transportation, safety and informatization. We have provided high-quality and efficient technical services for the railway industry in transportation organization, technical standards, information consulting, quality inspection and certification, basic testing, energy conservation and environmental protection, technical training and other aspects. As an industry manager and technology leader in comprehensive and professional testing of China's high-speed railways, China Academy of Railway Sciences Group Corporation has completed high-quality joint debugging and testing of all opened high-speed railways, passenger dedicated lines, and railway "going global" projects in China. We vigorously promote the industrialization and engineering transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and have created five pillar industrial sectors including mobile equipment, engineering, communication and signal, information technology, energy conservation and environmental protection. We have also built nine industrial bases located in Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan and other places, forming a large-scale, clustered and intelligent development pattern of advanced equipment industry for rail transit.
While serving the development of China's railways, the China Academy of Railway Sciences Group also attaches great importance to urban rail transit as an important development field. Based on years of accumulated railway technology advantages, it has conducted a large amount of basic and applied research in the field of urban rail transit, undertaken a large number of tasks such as policy research, standard formulation, equipment localization, engineering consulting and supervision, testing and inspection, product certification, and talent training, and has a significant influence in the field of urban rail transit in China.
